When seniors and parents reach out to me for senior pictures, one of the first things I like to do is set up a parent consultation call. That sounds so stuffy and formal but honestly, it's just a laid back conversation about you + your session.
I know, phone calls can be uncomfortable for some people. Honestly, it took me a while to get used to consultation calls myself. I've been chatting with parents during consult calls long enough now, though, that I see so much value in it. Here are some reasons why I think it's important:
It helps you get to know and trust me. The internet is a weird, freaky place sometimes, and consultation calls can help give seniors and parents a better sense of who I am and whether or not they would like to work with me. I'm all about doing anything that will make you feel more comfortable when you step in front of my camera.
It's quicker. Text or email conversations can lead to conversations that span over the course of days and sometimes even weeks. You will likely have questions for me, and me for you, and it cuts down on a lot of back-and-forth messaging when we can address it all on the phone.
It's less overwhelming. Anyone who hates phone calls is probably rolling their eyes at this, but seriously. There's a lot of information to share with you, and it can become overwhelming, even confusing sometimes, when it's all written out vs. being verbally communicated. Plus, it's so easy to overlook details that I send, and when we're on the phone I can be sure to give you all the info you'll need.
I can get to know you better. This one is my favorite so I saved it for last. :) When I talk to mamas on the phone, they tend to love gushing about their babies. I can get so much more input about your ideas, style, personality, interests, etc. this way. Not only does this help me to plan a session that will fit you, but also makes me that much more excited to get to work with you!
